Top 10 Tuesday: Fairy Tales

Top 10 Tuesday

Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. This week is all about fairy tales or their re-tellings that we want to read or have read. Let’s dive right in…

1. The Grimms’ Fairy Tales

My brother bought these for me a couple Christmas’s ago. I haven’t had the chance to dig into them, but I’m excited to read them this Christmas when I am home.

2. Wicked

Not technically a fairy tale retelling, but I love “The Wizard of Oz” and you know I loved “Wicked”. It’s just a fairy tale from a different perspective, and I love that!

3. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Such a great classic. I have an old edition that used to belong to my grandmother and the illustrations are amazing. It’s a bit of a weird tale, and you can tell Lewis Carroll was a little off his rocker, but it’s still an interesting book. I learn and understand more every time I read it.

4. The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Because isn’t this just a great lesson?

Thumbelina

5. Thumbelina

I probably watched this movie upwards of 100 times as a child and I’ve never read the fairy tale, so I would love to.

6. Rumplestiltskin

Something about this crazy tale has always interested me. And ever since I started watching “Once Upon a Time” I’ve fallen in love with it even more. (If you haven’t watched “Once Upon a Time”, DO IT.

7. The Little Mermaid

This is my favorite movie Disney and I owned a children’s book as a kid. I never could get enough of Ariel.

The Snow Queen

8. The Snow Queen

I would consider “Frozen” the retelling of this, and “Frozen” is the best. I know it’s over hyped, and there are gaping plot holes, but just “Let it Go” because “Frozen” takes the cake.

9. The Gingerbread Man

This reminded me of Shrek, which isn’t a book, but an awesome movie that is basically a retelling of many different fairy tales all rolled up into one.

10. Hans Christian Anderson Tales

I know I included some of those previously, but I love the retellings (for example, The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel). I would love to read all the originals.

Happy reading,
Kimberly
