Top 10 Books To Recommend To Non-Readers

As a book lover, I love sharing my library with friends. Believe it or not, not all of my friends like reading. It breaks my heart a little bit, but I do have a few books I always recommend because they are a guaranteed hit, even with non-readers. Let’s get started! one | The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid Monique lives in modern-day New York and is writing about the life of the 50s movie starlet Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn chronicles her life to Monique, so much of the story actually taking place in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. As Evelyn tells Monique about the trials and tribulations…

Top 5 Books From Required Reading Lists

Even though I’ve always loved reading, getting through a required reading list in school was always a struggle for me. Typically, I always read the books, but some books were harder to get through than others. Some of my favorite required reading was actually in a introduction to literature class I took during my senior year of school. That’s where I read The Great Gatsby for the first time and fell in love with Beloved (two books I’ll talk about later in this post). Whether you’ve been an avid reader since you first learned, or reading has always been the bane of your existence, it’s always going to be a part of your life,…

Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Read in School

Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It combines what I love most in this world into one—lists, books, and blogging. It couldn’t be any better suited for me! Since school has started/is starting (today’s my first last day of school ever), this week I’m going to be talking about my favorite books I read in school. This is going to range from elementary school all the way through college. Let’s get started! 1. The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Warner These were some of the first books I remember reading in my reading groups in first grade. I would check them out in batches of five…

Top 10 Tuesday: Books for College Students

Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It combines what I love most in this world into one—lists, books, and blogging. It couldn’t be any better suited for me! This week I’m making a syllabus for college students. Here’s a list of books you should keep on your shelf (and read) to prepare for (or escape) the real world. 1. 1984 by George Orwell I don’t have anything to say except this is a great book and everyone should read it. 2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger I’ve been told this is a book you should read at multiple stages in life. Most…

    Human Madness

Title: Animal Farm Author: George Orwell Genre: Fiction Quotation: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” Would recommend to: anyone who likes a simple story with great meaning. “Animal Farm” is one of those books you probably hated reading when you were high school, but luckily, I didn’t have the misfortunate of encountering this book through required reading. Therefore, I loved it when I read it. Here’s a brief overview: The animals on the farm don’t like being “oppressed” by the humans, therefore they stage a coup and overthrow the humans to gain control of the farm. Things seem to be going well, until someone lets the power get to his…

    Top 5 Wednesday: Required Reading

This week is all about that dreaded required reading for school, and with classes starting soon, this is a very fitting topic. As a kid I loved to read, and as you can tell, not much as changed. But reading for my classes always seemed to be the worst thing I could have imagined. Of course I had some pretty bad experiences with required reading (ahem, “Romeo and Juliet” —it’s not a love story people!), but I also discovered amazing stories I never would have otherwise read. So here we go… 1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee I read this freshman year of high school, and it was the…
