Top 5 Romance Novels to Read this Valentine’s Day

I’m not a frequenter of the romance aisle, but there’s no better time to start than on Valentine’s Day. Whether you’ve got a significant other this year or not, reading a classic romance novel is sure to get you in the loving mood. I recommend stocking up on some pink and red cupcakes, sugar cookies, and a box of chocolates before your dive into your new read — you’re sure to need them when the tears start flowing. I’ve got five recommendations for you to add to your list. Let’s get started! Image from nicholassparks.com 1. “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks This was the first book I ever read…

    Eleanor & Park: A Review

Title: Eleanor & Park Author: Rainbow Rowell Genre: Young Adult Fiction Quotation: “But it’s up to us …’ he said softly. ‘It’s up to us not to lose this.” Would recommend to: anyone who likes John Green novels and out-of-the-box characters. Eleanor & Park features your atypical love story — an overweight, redheaded girl and a skinny Asian boy. Due to its uncharacteristic characters, author Rainbow Rowell has received a lot of questions about Eleanor’s weight and Park’s ethnicity. She is acclaimed for stepping out-of-the-box and presenting an interesting, different love story for young adults. Apart from their unconventional physical appearances, Eleanor and Park stand out for other reasons such as Eleanor’s abusive household and…

    Fangirl: A Review

Title: Fangirl Author: Rainbow Rowell Genre: Young Adult Quotation: “In new situations, all the trickiest rules are the ones nobody bothers to explain to you. (And the ones you can’t Google.)” Would recommend to: people who understand the draw of fan-fiction. “Fangirl”, in my opinion, was a huge disappointment. It didn’t live up to the hype and excitement. Everyone that had read the novel had helped me set my expectations WAY too high, unfortunately. The basic premise of the story is that twins, that have been attached at the hip since birth, are going off to college where everything is about to change. Cath (the main character) spends her Friday nights writing fan-fiction about Simon Snow (who…

Top 10 Tuesday: Santa Can You Hear Me?

Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. It is the eve of the eve of the eve of Christmas (that means Christmas is three days away!), so I’m here to tell you about the books I hope I can find under the Christmas tree this year. 1. Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham It finally came out in paperback, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’ve heard SO much about it since it came out and have wanted to…

    Top 10 Tuesday: Auto-Buy Authors

Top 10 Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in 2010. It’s a fun way for bloggers all over the Internet to connect and post the things they love about books. This weeks designated topic is “auto-buy authors”. This refers to authors whose books you will buy no matter what. Personally, this is just too similar to the previous week for me (I’m not drawn to authors for some reason), so I’m going to list my Top 10 authors I want to read this upcoming school year. 1. Diana Gabaldon I’ve heard so many great things about “Outlander”. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. 2. George R.…
